Whiplash, also called cervical acceleration-deceleration, is a brain injury caused by a sudden jolt forward or backward. Most commonly, whiplash is the result of a car accident. If you are rear ended, for example, your body is jolted forward straightening out your spinal cord and forcing your head to extend safe levels.
